Transferoviar Călători will cancel, starting November 5, 24 Regio and Regio Express trains on nine routes in Romania, due to arrears in the payment of the railway infrastructure usage fee (TUI). The company claims that the financial problems are caused by the delayed payment of the public service compensation by the Railway Reform Authority (ARF).
The amount stipulated in the public service contract is essential for covering operating costs, according to the railway operator.
The suspended trains operate on the Bucharest North–Ploiești–Buzău, Bucharest North–Târgoviște–Pietroșița, Bucharest North or Basarab–Roșiori North, Bucharest North–Fetești, and Bucharest North–Adjud routes. The list also includes the Ploiești South–Măneciu, Ploiești South–Slănic, Buzău–Nehoiașu, and Cluj-Napoca–Bonțida routes.
The affected services include trains between Buzău and Bucharest, those between Roșiori North and the capital, as well as several regional connections in Prahova and Cluj. The operator has published the train numbers and departure and arrival times for all the services that are to be canceled.
