Adrian Ţuţuianu, the president of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), announced that, between January and June 2026, over 152,000 voters aged over 90 years have been verified. Of these, 15,424 have been removed from the Electoral Register, confirming their deaths, some of which were registered before 2026. Ţuţuianu mentioned that 17,000 people are likely deceased, but there are no supporting documents. He also emphasized the lack of records of Romanians who have died abroad and those from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, which complicates the process of updating the Electoral Register. Issues related to deaths abroad require interstate solutions, and the AEP will collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify these situations.
