The President of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), Adrian Tutuianu, stated on Friday that in electoral years, employees of the institution "do not get sick too often" because they have income from two sources, AEP and as technical staff at the Electoral Office, but otherwise there is "a way with medical leave".

Tutuianu announced that between 2023 and February 2026, employees of the institution recorded 1,130 medical leaves, with a significant decrease in electoral years.

Tutuianu emphasized that during campaigns, the number of medical leaves drops drastically, as employees receive additional income from AEP for electoral activities.

For example, in 2024, during the campaign, there were only 24 medical leaves in September, compared to 65 in the previous month.

Tutuianu mentioned a case of abuse, in which an employee was on medical leave while in Dubai, which will be reported to the Disciplinary Commission.

"A colleague, for whom I will report to the Disciplinary Commission, was very present these days, criticizing the Romanian state from Dubai for not repatriating him. You know what you don't know (...) is that our man had two weeks of medical leave before leaving for Dubai and, according to the data we have, at least from his Facebook posts, when he was in Dubai, he was on medical leave. So, this is the way, the attitude of some employees of the Permanent Electoral Authority," Tutuianu further explained.
