Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Monday that the PNL supports pension indexation and salary increases, but only if the measures are sustainable and can be financed from the budget. The Liberal called on the Social Democrats to present the sources of funding and the solutions through which the increases could be implemented without affecting budgetary balance.
“Discussions are one thing and reality is slightly different, and we see a very large difference between the PSD’s discourse in opposition and its discourse in government,” Abrudean said, according to Digi24
Abrudean criticized the difference between the PSD’s discourse in opposition and the position of the party in government. He argued that promises regarding income increases must be accompanied by concrete measures, not just political statements.
Regarding officials’ salaries, the Senate president said that the priority should be the adoption of a unitary salary law that is fair for the entire public system. He recalled that a proposal previously supported by the PNL was challenged by the PSD, but the Social Democrats would now be returning to the same option.
The statements come after PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday that pensions should increase in 2027, in accordance with legal provisions, and that Romania needs a new unitary salary law.
