Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Tuesday that budget execution after nine months demonstrates that the Bolojan Government left behind a “good inheritance,” with the deficit falling, spending under control and public investment increasing.
According to the Liberal politician, investment reached 107.77 billion lei, 25.15 billion lei above the level recorded during the same period last year. More than 70% of it was financed through European funds, Abrudean said in a Facebook post.
The statements come amid political disputes over the state of public finances and the measures needed to reduce the budget deficit. Abrudean maintains that official data do not confirm the existence of a “difficult inheritance,” a phrase he attributes to the PSD.
The Senate president accused the Social Democrats of using the budget situation as a pretext to justify their inability to implement the solutions announced in recent months. He also warned that these arguments could be used to support another tax increase. His statement represents the PNL’s political position in the dispute over the deficit’s evolution and the Government’s fiscal policies.
