A tragedy occurred on Wednesday morning in the underground of a mining operation in the town of Petrila, Hunedoara County, where a 51-year-old miner died. According to witnesses, the man suddenly fell to the ground after feeling unwell. Medical teams, including a SMURD crew and one from the Petroșani Emergency Hospital, arrived at the scene and attempted to resuscitate him, but without success.


Doctors declared him dead, the cause being a heart attack. The incident occurred around 10:05 AM, and the police in Petrila were notified via a 112 call. According to IPJ Hunedoara, the miner was in the area of the conveyor belt flow, at horizon 300, when he suffered the medical issue.


The police have opened a criminal case for manslaughter and for failing to comply with legal health and safety measures at work, and an operational team has been sent to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
