Horațiu Cosma, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, announced on Tuesday that the physical progress on the first section of the Unirii A8 Highway has reached approximately 50%.
The project, which is taking place between Târgu Mureș and Miercurea Nirajului, is advancing rapidly, with 24 kilometers under construction. He stated that nearly 800 workers and over 700 machines are on site.
The project benefits from favorable weather conditions, and the earthworks are increasing by over 400,000 cubic meters per month. In July, nearly 25,000 tons of asphalt mixtures are scheduled, and in August, an increase to 40,000 tons is expected. Progress is even more advanced on structures, with bridges and overpasses reaching 65% physical progress. Over 400 beams have been produced, and 200 have been installed.
The relocation of high-voltage electrical networks will be completed in July, unlocking the last work fronts.
Traffic on the first kilometers of the highway is expected in the first part of 2027.
