20 employees of the Săpunari Psychiatric Hospital in Călărași County, including nurses and assistants, have been placed under judicial control, being accused of illegally restraining seven hospitalized patients with mental disorders. The actions took place between July 6 and August 25, 2025, without respecting the conditions and legal procedures intended for the protection of individuals with mental health issues, according to the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Călărași Tribunal. On Wednesday, authorities conducted searches at the hospital and at the homes of the defendants. The case was opened following a report from the Monitoring Council for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, highlighting serious violations of patients' rights.
