A 13-year-old girl has been taken in by Sibiu's Child Protection Department after her mother filmed an exorcism ritual considered abusive.

The incident was filmed and posted by the girl's mother, who believed her daughter was possessed. The mentally retarded girl cried as the mother forced her to repeat prayers. The police opened an investigation for ill-treatment of the minor and the child protection directorate decided to place the girl in a foster home. Psychologists stress the need to address such practices and the responsibility of religious leaders.
