A Birkin giant, known as the Birkin Voyageur, which belonged to Jane Birkin, was sold on Friday at an auction in Abu Dhabi for the sum of 2.45 million euros, including taxes. This represents an amount six times higher than the initial estimate of 370,000 euros, after intense competition among six collectors. The bag, offered by the fashion house Hermes to Birkin in 2003, is made of black leather and has handwritten signatures by the artist.
Jane Birkin had a tradition of selling bags to support charitable causes, and Hermes has always replaced the sold pieces. In July, another Birkin bag was sold for nearly 8.6 million euros, setting a record. A third bag, which contains personal accessories of Jane Birkin, will be auctioned on December 15, with an estimated price between 100,000 and 120,000 euros. Additionally, an original manuscript of the film "Je t'aime moi non plus" will be available for auction, estimated between 15,000 and 18,000 euros.
