The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is discussing a proposal that could ban the participation of U.S. President Donald Trump and other government officials at the 2028 Summer Olympics due to unpaid annual contributions.
The U.S. owes approximately $3.7 million for 2025 and $3.6 million for 2024, and the contribution has been withheld since 2023 due to the scandal involving Chinese swimmers testing positive for banned substances.
The WADA proposal includes sanctions for countries that do not pay their contributions by January 31, including the exclusion of government representatives from major events. WADA has dismissed information suggesting that these rules could affect future competitions, emphasizing that they do not apply retroactively.
