World Cup: Unai Simion has broken the record for minutes played without conceding a goal

In the match of the Round of 16 of the World Cup on Thursday, Spain defeated Austria 3-0, and goalkeeper Unai Simon set a new record for invincibility, not conceding a goal in the last 519 minutes of play. He surpassed the previous record held by Italian Walter Zenga, which was 517 minutes from 1990. Simon's impressive streak began during the 2022 World Cup when he last conceded a goal from Ao Tanaka in the Japan-Spain match (2-1).

Since then, he has managed to keep the goal intact in matches against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, and Austria. Simon has also dethroned Iker Casillas, who had a record of 476 minutes, and Peter Shilton, with 500 minutes. Spain is now preparing to face Croatia or Portugal in the knockout stage.
