The ceremony for lighting the Olympic torch was a small event due to warnings of heavy rain, similar to last week's ceremony in Olympia. Giovanni Malagò, the head of the Milan-Cortina organizing committee, received the lit torch just over two months before the official opening of the Winter Olympic Games, scheduled for February 6, 2026. Malagò emphasized Italy's pride in its Olympic heritage and announced a 63-day adventure with the Olympic flame.

Jasmine Paolini, the Olympic champion in tennis, carried the torch in Greece, and the flame will arrive in Rome on December 6. The journey will include stops in 60 cities and 300 locations, aiming to stimulate interest in winter sports throughout Italy. The torch will arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo on January 26, 2026, marking 70 years since the 1956 Olympic Games, and will conclude on February 6, 2026, at the opening ceremony in Milan.
