The decision was made following an investigation conducted by the Integrity Department, which uncovered extensive betting activity. It appears that the agent had an account on a foreign betting platform since 2012, actively using it in the last five years, betting on over 5,000 sporting events, with a total turnover of nearly two million euros. Investigations revealed that the bets were not limited to external events, raising suspicions about the use of insider information to influence outcomes. It is suspected that Sărmășan collected information from clubs or players to support his betting activity. The decision of the FRF Disciplinary Commission can be appealed to the Appeals Commission.
