Wayne Rooney has expressed his willingness to join the coaching staff of his former teammate Michael Carrick, in the event that Carrick takes over as interim manager of Manchester United, following the departure of Ruben Amorim. Rooney, who played 13 seasons for United, emphasized the importance of having people around Carrick who know the club.

Although retired from active play since 2021, Rooney has coaching experience, having had stints at Derby County, DC United, Birmingham City, and Plymouth Argyle. Carrick, the favorite to succeed Amorim, already had a brief interim period in 2021 and spent two and a half years at Middlesbrough. Rooney believes that Carrick would be an excellent choice for the club, having a deep love for Manchester United.
