North Korea has secured qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup, which will take place in Brazil, after a convincing 4-0 victory against Taiwan in the Asia Cup playoffs in Australia. This is North Korea's first participation in a women's world tournament since 2011, when they played in Germany. In this playoff, the Philippines also qualified, defeating Uzbekistan 2-0.
The four semifinalists of the Asia Cup - Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea - have also secured their tickets to Brazil. North Korea, holder of the U17 and U20 world titles, has a history of participating in the world tournament but was suspended in 2015 due to a doping scandal and failed to qualify in 2019. They also withdrew from the 2023 World Cup due to COVID-19 restrictions, without playing any matches between 2019 and 2023.
