The NJ Transit company from New Jersey will apply an estimated fare of over 100 dollars for round-trip train tickets from Pennsylvania Station in New York to MetLife Stadium during the World Cup. This represents an increase of over seven times compared to the usual fare of 12.90 dollars. The special fare will be uniform for all categories of passengers, including those with disabilities or seniors. The final decision regarding the fare is expected soon. Senator Chuck Schumer criticized FIFA for the high costs imposed on host cities, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul called the proposed fare "extremely high." NJ Transit explained that the fare increase is necessary to cover transportation and security costs, which amount to 48 million dollars. Additionally, parking spaces will be limited, and regular commuters will not have access to Penn Station around the time of the matches. This situation reflects the trend of increasing transportation fares in other states for World Cup events, adding an additional financial burden for fans.
