At the National Marathon Championship in Bucharest, Nicolae Alexandru Soare achieved a remarkable performance, setting a new national record of 2:11:58, after 47 years since the previous record. Soare won the competition, followed by two Kenyan athletes. In the women's category, Kenyan Beatrice Cherono won with 2:44:51.
