Mircea Lucescu, the head coach of the national football team, was hospitalized at the University Hospital in Bucharest on March 29, 2026, after collapsing during the national team's training. Doctors initially diagnosed him with cardiac syncope, a serious condition that can be caused by heart problems such as arrhythmias or heart attack. On-site, SMURD teams intervened quickly, stabilizing Lucescu before transporting him to the hospital. Although his condition was described as severely weakened, a member of the medical team mentioned that the coach is "ok." Lucescu has a history of heart issues, having undergone surgery in 2009 for a pre-infarction. The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has confirmed the situation and will provide updates on his health. His granddaughter, Marilu Lucescu, is at the hospital, along with other close family members.
