Belgium has called up Romelu Lukaku for the 2026 World Cup, although the striker has played only once in competitive football this season due to a thigh injury. At 33 years old, Lukaku has not been a starter at Napoli, coming on as a substitute five times, with only one goal scored in February, in Verona. Coach Rudi Garcia decided to bet on his experience, considering that Lukaku is the national team's top scorer, with 89 goals in 124 matches. His last appearance for Belgium was in June last year, in the World Cup qualifiers. In the national squad, Garcia also included young striker Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who chose to represent Belgium. Belgium is part of Group G, alongside Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand.
