Lawrence Dallaglio, former captain of England’s national rugby team, will auction several trophies and medals won throughout his career to pay off his debts, according to Sky News. The auction will begin on October 13.
Among the items being auctioned is the world champion’s medal he won in 2003 with England. It is valued at between 58,000 and 93,000 euros. Dallaglio also hopes to obtain approximately 11,500 euros for his runner-up medal from the 2007 Rugby World Cup, a tournament in which England were defeated by South Africa.
The former English international is facing financial problems, exacerbated by divorce. After the separation, he was forced to sell his house in London for approximately 2.8 million euros, but the sum was not sufficient to cover his financial obligations.
Dallaglio estimates that the sale of the medals and other trophies could bring him around 210,000 euros, money he intends to use to reduce his debts to banks. A former captain of England and world champion in 2003, he is one of the important figures in English rugby.
