Begu, at the age of 35 and ranked 211th in the WTA, needed almost two hours of play (1 h 51 min) to overcome a younger opponent by 16 years, who is ranked 222nd in the world. With this victory, Begu secured a check of 33,000 euros and 20 WTA points, and her next opponent will be Dutch Suzan Lamens, ranked 129th in the WTA, in their first confrontation. In another match, Miriam Bulgaru, at the age of 27 and ranked 235th in the WTA, was eliminated in the first preliminary round by Chinese Hanyu Guo, with 6-0, 7-5, after one hour and 39 minutes.
