Gabriela Ruse, a Romanian player ranked 79th in the WTA, was eliminated on Friday by the Russian Mirra Andreeva, ranked 7th in the WTA and the 8th seed, in the third round of the Australian Open. The match took place at Rod Laver Arena and lasted one hour and 36 minutes. Although Ruse adopted an aggressive playing style, Andreeva managed to withstand and win with 6-3, 6-4. The first set was dominated by Andreeva, who made a crucial break. In the second set, both players had consecutive breaks, but Andreeva managed to finish the match with a final winning serve.
This was the first confrontation between the two players. Gabriela Ruse had a remarkable run in the tournament, earning 130 WTA points and a prize of 327,750 Australian dollars. She was the last Romanian player remaining in the competition, after the earlier eliminations of other Romanian players.
