A former footballer from the England national team has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, according to information provided by the BBC. The suspect, who played for the national team in the 2010s, was detained at Stansted Airport, being stopped at the passport control point by Border Force officers.
According to reports, the player was wanted by the police for an older charge of attempted rape. A spokesperson for Essex police confirmed the arrest, stating that the man has been released on bail until the end of February 2026, while the investigation continues. For legal reasons, the name of the former footballer cannot be disclosed.
