FIFA has generated controversy by tripling the price of category 1 tickets for the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, reaching nearly $33,000. The previous price was $10,990, available only for seats designated for people with disabilities. FIFA officials, including president Gianni Infantino, argue that these prices reflect 'market prices' in the USA, an environment where ticket resale is permitted.
Additionally, prices for the semifinals on July 14 range between $2,705 and $11,130, while for the opening and group matches, tickets are listed between $840 and $2,970. Infantino explained that the high prices are justified by high demand and ticket resale, which can exceed the initial price. FIFA charges a 15% fee for both the purchase and resale of tickets.
