The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has adopted a new eligibility policy that excludes transgender athletes from women's competitions at the Olympic Games, in accordance with an executive order signed by former President Trump. Under the new regulation, eligibility for women's events is limited to biological women, determined by a mandatory genetic test. Although it is unclear how many transgender women compete at the Olympic level, the IOC emphasizes that the policy protects "fairness, safety, and integrity" in women's competitions.

The policy does not apply retroactively and does not affect mass sports. It also restricts athletes with medical conditions known as differences in sexual development (DSD), such as athlete Caster Semenya. The IOC has highlighted that the physical advantages of athletes born male are significant and that the current genetic test is the most accurate and least intrusive. This decision was made in the context of a broader discussion about the inclusion of transgender athletes, but also about protecting women's sports. Criticism from human rights experts and activist groups is expected, given the controversies generated by these measures.
