Emma Răducanu and Naomi Osaka will face each other in the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 in Washington after both won in the first round.

Romanian-born Emma Răducanu defeated number seven seed Marta Kostyuk 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 at the WTA 500 in Washington. In the same round, Naomi Osaka beat Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 7-5. This will be the first head-to-head meeting between Răducanu and Osaka, both of whom have a good chance of advancing in the competition.
