Eddy Merckx, known as one of the greatest cyclists in history, is in hospital in Antwerp for hip surgery after complications following a prosthetic hip replacement. After a fall in December, the first two attempts to implant a prosthesis were unsuccessful and Merckx developed a skin infection that required treatment with antibiotics. He will be hospitalized for at least ten days.
