David Popovici won the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle final at the Settecolli Trophy, held in Rome, with an impressive time of 47.26, thus setting a new competition record. He reached the final with the best time of 47.72 and managed to surpass the Brazilian Santos Caribe, who finished with 47.88, and the Hungarian Milak Kristof, with 47.89.
Popovici, at the age of 21, stated that Rome is one of his favorite places, where he has achieved significant results in his career. He also emphasized that the Settecolli Trophy is a preparation stage for the European Championship in August, considering the competition an opportunity to adapt to pressure. David Popovici will also compete in the 200-meter freestyle event, scheduled for Sunday, June 28.
