Maria Timofeeva, a Russian tennis player and winner of the Budapest tournament in 2023, has officially announced her renunciation of Russian citizenship and will represent Uzbekistan. At 21 years old and ranked 146th in the WTA, Timofeeva stated that she is "excited about this new chapter" in her career and debuted under the new flag at a Challenger tournament held in Italy, in Rovereto.
