CSKA 1948 Sofia announced the death of Yuri Vasev, the club’s senior coach, in a message posted on social media. The coach died after a long and serious illness, according to the statement issued by the Bulgarian runners-up.
The Bulgarian club expressed its condolences to the family and loved ones and highlighted Vasev’s contribution to the team’s activities. “Yuri was part of the CSKA family, and we will remember him with respect and gratitude for everything he gave to the club and the team,” the club representatives said.
Recently, due to the worsening of his health problems, the CSKA 1948 Sofia team was coached by 33-year-old Ognyan Mladenov.
Yuri Vasev was part of the club’s staff during a period when CSKA 1948 Sofia also competed in European competitions. In 2023, the Bulgarian team made its debut in European club competitions in a matchup against FCSB. The two-legged tie was won by the Romanian team 4-2 on aggregate.
