After the departure of Ioan Ovidiu Sabău, Cluj University negotiated with several coaches, including Dorinel Munteanu and Adrian Mutu, but decided to appoint the Italian Cristiano Bergodi. He has extensive experience in Romanian football, having coached teams such as Sepsi, Universitatea Craiova, FCSB, and CFR Cluj. Bergodi has won the Romanian Cup twice with Sepsi and has obtained two Super Cups.
The new coach has signed a contract valid until the summer of 2027 and will be assisted by collaborators such as Luigi Ciarlantini and Eugen Catalin Anghel. Cluj University has returned to European cups after 53 years, but the performances in the new season have been below expectations.
