The Berceni Arena ice rink in Sector 4 will be named after former Romanian hockey great Doru Tureanu, in memory of the athlete who was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame. The announcement was made on Friday, September 19, at the opening ceremony of the 2026 European Week of Sport, held at the arena on Berceni Road.
As early as May, the Sector 4 Local Council had asked the Bucharest Municipal Council to approve the name “Doru Tureanu Ice Rink.” During the event, the former athlete’s children gave their consent for the use of his name and image.
Doru Tureanu was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 2011, becoming the second Romanian to receive this recognition, after Eduard Pană. The former hockey player wore number 6 for both his club and the national team and won six Romanian championship titles.
A mini-exhibition featuring items that belonged to him has also been set up at Berceni Arena, including a hockey stick, sports equipment, skates and photographs from international competitions. On September 26, the arena will host “BeActive Night,” featuring demonstrations of figure skating, short track, speed skating, hockey, bobsleigh and luge. Admission will be free.
