Atletico Madrid announced on Sunday evening that it has reached an agreement with Atalanta Bergamo for the transfer of Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman, marking the team's first signing in the winter transfer window. The agreement is conditional on the successful completion of the medical visit and the signing of the contract. Lookman, who had an outstanding performance in the Africa Cup of Nations, wanted to leave Italy since the end of the 2023/2024 season, after impressing in the Europa League final.
Although the asking price from Atalanta was 35 million euros (plus 5 million in bonuses), Atletico decided to bring him into the team, thus strengthening the attack, especially after the departure of Giacomo Raspadori. Lookman, at the age of 28, has also played for clubs such as Everton, RB Leipzig, and Fulham.
