Victor Negrescu, Vice President of the European Parliament, calls for the opening of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, following the elections in Hungary.

Victor Negrescu, Member of the European Parliament and Vice-President of the European Parliament responsible for relations with the Republic of Moldova, sent a letter to the President of the European Council, António Costa, requesting the opening of cluster negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova. This initiative comes as a result of the election outcome in Hungary, which offers an opportunity to overcome the pro-Russian government's opposition in Budapest. Negrescu emphasizes that the Republic of Moldova has demonstrated significant progress in taking on the European path and that the start of negotiations would stimulate the necessary reforms and strengthen collaboration with Romania.

The European Council's decision could be made at the first formal meeting in June or at the ambassadorial level. Negrescu believes it is essential for the European Union to confirm this path through a clear decision.
