Roberta Metsola, about the "Plan B" of unification with Romania to accelerate the Republic of Moldova's EU accession: "Moldova is the one that must decide its future"

Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, stated that the Republic of Moldova is the one that must decide its European future, following questions related to unification with Romania as a potential "plan B" for accelerating EU accession.

In an interview for NewsMaker.md, Metsola emphasized that, despite disinformation campaigns, Moldovan citizens continue to opt for a European future. She mentioned the progress made by Moldova, including integration into the Single Euro Payments Area and the "Roam Like at Home" zone, and assured that the EU will continue to support the Moldovan economy. Metsola highlighted the importance of allocating necessary funds in the long-term budget of the Union to support all candidate countries.

Moldovan officials, including President Maia Sandu, have acknowledged that unification with Romania could be an alternative option if the EU accession process stalls.
