The Republic of Moldova denounced at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) repeated violations of its airspace by drones, amid the ongoing war waged by Russia against Ukraine. The issue was presented by Ambassador Victoria Roșa, the Republic of Moldova’s permanent representative to the OSCE, during the 1,145th meeting of the Forum for Security Co-operation.
The ambassador drew attention to the incidents recorded on September 8, 12 and 14, and to the risks they pose to the population and civil aviation. Chișinău considers both the frequency of the overflights and the drones’ cross-border trajectories concerning.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on the incident of September 8, when the same drone successively crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. The Moldovan delegation presented the case as evidence of the cross-border nature of the threats generated by the war in the region.
The Republic of Moldova reiterated that the sovereignty and airspace of states must be respected and that the civilian population must be protected. Chișinău also again called for an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine and to actions it considers liable to affect regional and European security.
