In the first nine months of 2025, the Republic of Moldova imported approximately 153,000 tons of mineral fertilizers, at an average price of 9,940 lei per ton, which represents a 15% increase compared to the previous year. Although the volume of imports has slightly decreased, prices have risen, indicating a more cautious market, where farmers buy only for immediate needs. Expert Iurie Rija emphasizes that this trend reflects a lack of liquidity in the agricultural sector and a strategy of postponing purchases until the clarification of climatic conditions for the agricultural year. The structure of imports has changed, with an increase in demand for phosphate and complex fertilizers, such as ammonium phosphate and ammonium sulfate, to the detriment of urea and NPK. The company Carvidon-Trade SRL was the main importer, followed by Fertistream-TRM SRL, which took over part of the activity of the former Agrocenter Eurochem SRL. Approximately 64% of the imported fertilizers come from Russia, highlighting Moldova's dependence on these products. This concentration of suppliers poses risks for the local market, and the accessibility of fertilizers remains below the European Union average, increasing production costs for farmers.
