Before the warning at the end of the meeting, the Republic of Moldova was already dealing with the consequences of a large-scale cyberattack: the Electronic Governance Agency announced that, following unauthorized access to government information systems, data associated with approximately 750,000 IDNPs had been extracted. The authorities explained that the data cannot be used directly to commit crimes, but that scammers may contact citizens while posing as representatives of a bank, customs authorities, or other institutions and using the stolen information to request additional data.
At the same time, Maia Sandu also drew attention to the risks related to drones: in another context, the president reported that Russian drones had violated Moldova’s airspace 39 times in 2026, emphasizing the need to accelerate the modernization of the country’s defenses. Earlier, an incident was also reported in which five drones and missiles allegedly entered the airspace over a period of approximately 15 minutes, with explosions reported near several localities.
