The Chişinău Court issued a preventive arrest warrant for Ilan Şor, accused of illegally financing certain political parties.

The Chişinău Court has issued a preventive arrest warrant for 30 days in the name of Ilan Şor, accused of the illegal financing of political parties in the case of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). The measure was requested by anti-corruption prosecutors on April 24 and was communicated to Şor through an international legal assistance request, as he is hiding in the Russian Federation.

According to the prosecution, Şor is accused of orchestrating the illegal financing of a political party from prohibited sources, including from an organized criminal group. He allegedly proposed, through former deputy Alexandr Nesterovschi, that Arina Spătaru take over the leadership of a pro-European party, which was subsequently financed with considerable amounts.

Nesterovschi was convicted in this case but managed to flee to the Transnistrian region. Şor is accused of financing the ALDE party with $452,700, aiming to control the political processes in Moldova.
