The Leușeni-Albița border crossing recorded heavy traffic this morning, with queues of cars and longer waiting times, influenced by the introduction of the European Union's Entry/Exit System (EES). This system, active since March 2, imposes additional control procedures, especially at the first border crossing, where biometric data is collected to create an individual file. Authorities suggest travelers use other crossing points, such as Costești or Leova, to avoid congestion. EES applies to citizens of the Republic of Moldova traveling to Romania and other EU states for short stays, recording the date and place of entry and exit, as well as biometric data. Although it does not change travel rights, the system digitalizes the record of entries and exits, helping to prevent exceeding the legal duration of stay. The data is stored for three years, and individuals have the right to access and rectify the information.
