Emil Ceban, current Minister of Health and former rector of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy 'Nicolae Testemițanu', stated that he has signed thousands of diplomas annually according to a standard procedure, emphasizing that the process is digitized and rigorously regulated. Ceban asserted that he had no reason to question the authenticity of the signed diplomas.
However, following the prosecutors' investigations, he stated that he is interested in finding out who is to blame if it is proven that the diplomas were obtained by violating internal procedures. The scandal came to light when the Romanian police raided several doctors in Romania, former students of the university, suspected of fraudulently obtaining residency diplomas. They are being investigated for material forgery and practicing a profession without a license. The university announced that it has taken notice of the situation and will cooperate with investigators to clarify the matter.
