The pro-European party PAS, led by Maia Sandu, is facing a decisive election, in which it risks losing control over Parliament to pro-Russian forces. Accusations of Russian interference and internal economic difficulties are affecting support for PAS. In the event that they fail to secure a majority, Moldova could see an increase in eurosceptic influence, which could severely impact European integration aspirations. Russia is investing large sums to influence the votes, which could destabilize not only Moldova but also the region as a whole.
