USR and PNL have initiated a legislative proposal aimed at dedicating the next ten years to strengthening Romania's position in the European Union, declaring 2027 as 'The Year of European Romania' and the period 2027-2037 as 'The Decade of European Strengthening'. In a press release, the initiators emphasize the importance of Romania's membership in the EU, highlighting the financial and social benefits obtained in the last two decades. Romania has received non-reimbursable funds of approximately 108.3 billion euros, having a positive net balance of 72.4 billion euros.
The proposal includes objectives such as reaching the EU average in GDP per capita, joining the eurozone, and strengthening security at the eastern border of the Union. Ovidiu Cîmpean, PNL deputy, emphasized the need to increase Romania's influence in the EU, while Alin Stoica, USR deputy, highlighted the role of civil society in defending democratic values. The parties are calling for a public discussion about the benefits of EU membership, in the context of current geopolitical challenges.
