Former President Traian Băsescu believes that appointing an independent prime minister, supported by the parties that will enter government, is the solution to ending the government crisis. Băsescu made the statement on Sunday evening, on Digi24, amid the deadlock between the parliamentary parties and the consultations scheduled at Cotroceni.
The former head of state noted that the political options have narrowed after AUR announced that it does not support a government of which it is not part, President Nicușor Dan opposed a formula including AUR, Sorin Grindeanu would reportedly favor such an alliance, while the Liberals do not support him for the position of prime minister.
Băsescu said that the PSD could also accept a prime minister from another party, although the Social Democrats maintain that they have the majority needed to form the Government. He assessed that the appointment of Grindeanu would be firmly rejected by the Liberals.
The former president also commented on the scenario in which the PSD would propose AUR ministers. According to Băsescu, Nicușor Dan could refuse to sign the decrees for some of them, and the respective ministries could be temporarily headed by interim ministers until new ministers are appointed.
President Nicușor Dan is scheduled to hold new consultations with the parliamentary parties on Monday at Cotroceni Palace to designate a prime minister.
