The bill proposing the temporary suspension of subsidies for political parties in the years 2026 and 2027 was rejected by the Senate with 74 votes for rejection, 35 against, and one abstention. The measure was justified by the need for fiscal consolidation and the redirection of budgetary resources towards priority areas such as health, education, and social protection.
Although the initiative was rejected in the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body, will continue to analyze it, but it is unlikely to be adopted considering the interests of the parties.
