The president of PSD Buzău, Romeo Lungu, said that the decision of the mayor of Buzău, Constantin Toma, to resign from the positions of president of the Municipal Organization of PSD and first vice president of the County Organization of PSD was predictable considering Toma's statements over the past year. At the same time, the former prime minister and current president of the Buzău County Council, Marcel Ciolacu, said that "I don't know how, I don't know why and I am not interested" in why Toma resigned.
"It was natural because, following the statements from the past year, he no longer found himself in this party," said the president of PSD Buzău.
Lungu emphasized that if Toma no longer finds himself in the leadership of the party, he should also give up his membership in PSD.
He also rejected the idea that the vote of the PSD local councilors against the mayor's projects would represent indiscipline, stating that they have the responsibility to analyze each project.
Toma's dissatisfaction would have been generated by the postponement of the debate on a street modernization project, supported by the PSD councilors.
Lungu announced a meeting of the local leadership to establish the next steps.
At the same time, Marcel Ciolacu, the president of the Buzău County Council, avoided commenting on the resignation, leaving this to Lungu.
"I don't know how, I don't know why and I am not interested. I do not hold political positions in the party, I am just the president of the County Council. Ask the president of PSD Buzău, Romeo Lungu," said Marcel Ciolacu to News.ro.
Toma's resignation deepens the conflict within PSD Buzău.
