The mayor of Buzău municipality announced the dismissal of approximately 150 local police officers as part of a reorganization of the administrative apparatus.
The mayor emphasizes that, in the last 10 years, 35 million euros have been spent to support the Local Police, money that could have been used for the modernization of the city's infrastructure. In the Tuesday meeting, the Local Council approved the maximum number of positions for the year 2026, mentioning that the new organizational chart will not affect the staff, with the exception of local police officers. Toma explained that it was necessary to reduce vacant positions by 30% and that, in accordance with the law, the city should have one police officer for every 1,200 residents. The mayor also mentioned that, in the absence of local police officers, the money saved could be invested in infrastructure, thus improving the living conditions for the people of Buzău.
The new organizational chart provides for 394 positions, plus 150 in subordinate services. Toma stated that, without a valid organizational chart, the city could not function optimally, and the people of Buzău have suffered due to the lack of investment in infrastructure.
