The interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that the referral to the Constitutional Court regarding the integrity law is "necessary", arguing that some amendments introduced in Parliament were made "for political favors", not to increase transparency.

According to the Prime Minister, if the contested provisions are declared unconstitutional, the law will be sent back to Parliament for correction, and the legislature will have two weeks to make modifications. If the CCR rejects the objections, the normative act will be sent for promulgation.

Bolojan criticized the amendments targeted by the referral, stating that they "were not made out of concern for transparency, but for political favors".

At the same time, he warned that a potential decision of unconstitutionality could affect the fulfillment of the milestone in the PNRR regarding integrity, valued at 770 million euros. The referral to the CCR was submitted by USR and PNL parliamentarians, and the Court set the hearing date for August 12.

The integrity law was adopted on Wednesday by the Senate plenary with 105 votes "for", 8 votes "against" and 7 abstentions, after previously passing through the Chamber of Deputies.
