The state budget for 2026 was adopted with 319 votes in favor, 104 against, and one abstention, after intense debates in committees and in the coalition. Ilie Bolojan, the leader of the coalition, stated that the budget reflects a new, correct approach towards citizens, including reforms in administration and special pensions, as well as spending cuts in public institutions. He emphasized that the budget represents a 'safety belt' for public finances, ensuring the maintenance of financial balance and adherence to commitments made. Bolojan thanked citizens for their efforts and assured that the budget covers public investments, social spending, and the payment of salaries and pensions. The opposition criticized the budget, arguing that it does not contain sufficient measures to protect the population against rising prices.
"I thank all the parliamentarians who voted for the budget. A budget that provides a new, correct approach towards citizens. On this occasion, I tell Romanians that all the reforms made so far – the reform of administration, the reform of special pensions, the spending cuts in public institutions – are reflected in this budget. The budget also represents the safety belt we have against unwanted deviations. Thus, no one will be able to throw away the efforts of Romanians made in recent months and waste public finances," said Ilie Bolojan in Parliament, after the final vote on the state budget law and the state social insurance budget law.
